Your flight

How do I start a flight?

Open the app, give your name for the crew list, meet your crew, and tap Start the countdown. Launch control picks up the count at T−00:03:20, and you lift off three minutes and twenty seconds later.

How long does a flight take?

Eight or nine days, in real time: twelve minutes to orbit, three days out, the landing and a moonwalk, and nearly three days home to a splashdown in the Pacific.

Do I have to keep the app open?

No. The flight goes on while the app is closed. When you come back, the ship is exactly where it would be, and anything you missed can be watched again.

How do I watch something again?

Tap Replay. Drag the timeline to go back (a flick glides on; pinch to see hours at a time), or use the circled arrows to go ten seconds back or on. Tap Back to live to return to the present. You can also open your trip from the Next line and tap any moment already flown.

How do I walk on the Moon?

When your turn on the moonwalk comes, the view goes on foot by itself. Drag and hold anywhere on the view to walk, and tap to hop. The Earth button turns you to face Earth.

How do I start a new flight?

Go to More, then Your flight, then Start a new flight. It ends the flight you are on and gets a new crew ready on the pad, with the count holding until you start it. The journey you bought covers every new flight.

The purchase

What is free, and what does the purchase add?

The countdown, the launch and the climb to orbit are free. Once you reach orbit the flight waits for you: one purchase, Continue the Journey, at $3.99 in the US, continues it to the Moon, the landing, the moonwalk and the trip home, for that flight and every flight you start after it. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

How do I restore my purchase?

Tap Restore Purchase on the card where the flight waits in orbit, or in the app go to More, then Your flight, then Restore Purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. On a new iPhone, or after reinstalling the app, this is all it takes.

Does the purchase work with Family Sharing?

Yes. Once bought, the journey can be shared with up to five other members of your Family Sharing group, on their own iPhones. They tap Restore Purchase if the card still shows.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are made through Apple, and Apple handles refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, signed in with the Apple Account you used.

Notifications and photos

How do I turn on notifications?

The app offers them once you have bought the journey: a heads-up a few minutes before each big moment (leaving for the Moon, arriving, the landing, the moonwalk, coming home), and only when you are not watching. To turn them on later, go to More, then Your flight, then Tell me at the big moments.

If you said no when your iPhone asked, the app cannot ask again. Tap Turn On in Settings there, or open Settings, then Notifications, then Moon Journey, and turn on Allow Notifications.

Between 10 at night and 7 in the morning on your iPhone's clock they arrive without a sound, with a summary at 7. You can turn Quiet at night off, or keep it and choose to be woken for liftoff and landing.

How do I save photos?

Once your flight is on its way to the Moon, a camera button appears at the top. Press it to save the view to your Photos. The app asks only to add photos: it cannot see, read or change anything already in your library.

If you said no, open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Photos, then Moon Journey, and choose Add Photos Only.

About the app

Is this a real mission?

Every flight is a full calculation of a mission that could be flown from Kennedy Space Center at that moment, flown the way Apollo flew, but no rocket leaves the pad. A page in the app, How this is worked out (More, then About this flight), says what is calculated, what is measured and what is filled in. Moon Journey is not affiliated with NASA and is not endorsed by it.

Which devices does it run on?

Every iPhone with iOS 26 or later, and iPhone Duo in every pose: closed, open, or folded like a book or a laptop.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Everything the app shows is worked out on your iPhone. Buying or restoring the journey goes through the App Store, which needs a connection.
